Just about a month ago, Mobius games announced that they will be a gateway for subscribing on Dofus. Furthermore all accounts made from January 1 onwards will automatically be assigned to an exclusive Philippines server. Although Reema and I are hoping this is a SEA server not a pure IP blocked Philippine one, we always like diversity.
On that note,
Dofus isn't a new MMORPG, in fact a handful of Filipino players are already playing it long before Mobius and Ankama (dofus publisher) had this recent partnership. Dofus is a turn based tactical MMORPG with a bit of cartoon-ish graphics, but don't be fooled some contents are a bit surprising. Besides that, the gameplay itself is unique to any games we played, it's the main reason why we love this game. Since it's a turn based tactical game, you can throw away that point click fighting style. It's economy is entirely run by players, everything, and I mean everything is player dependent. This is the main reason why a new server starts up very slow unlike other games. We already reviewed this game a while back when it was on it's infant stage, and a lot has changed, but one thing remains the same, it is still very addictive and fun. We are glad with the new payment system, most filipino gamers who did not have the privilege to enjoy this game will finally have that opportunity. So what are you waiting for? =)

This game is impossible for me to ignore any further, I have been thinking about writing about it for some time, but due to recent events outside my computer, it was pushed back. Today I introduce you to one of the most unique MMORPGs I have ever played,
Minions of Mirth. Minions of Mirth is your typical fantasy MMORPG, although it is still in development, it's out-dated graphics doesn't stop it from entertaining it's players. Like most Development MMORPGs, Minions of Mirth failed to be recognized on a wide scale, unless your using a Mac or Linux.
There are two key features that will make Minion's of Mirth deserve a second look. Like so few MMORPG, Minions of Mirth features a system on which players can take up multiple class/jobs in one character, known as "Multi-classing". I'm not talking about sub classes, like a scout can take up a hunter job later on. I'm talking about main classes, like a Paladin taking up at Hunter as his second class. The multi-classing in Minions of Mirth is unique in every way from other MMORPG, if you do take up another class, you have to level it alongside your current class, so if someone asked you what your current level is, most likely you will answer them with 3 figures instead of one. A brief explanation of this is that you have three characters in ONE, and the developers of Minions of Mirth did and is doing a great job balancing this feature, always attentive on their player's comments.

The second key feature of Minions of Mirth is the ability to unlock multiple character templates. What does this mean exactly? It means you are not limited to the characters you start with. You can unlock multiple "bonus" characters, ranging from a rat to a giant dragon, that's right, you can actually play a dragon in Minions of Mirth. Other MMORPGs let you transform your character to other monsters, but in Minions of Mirth you become those monsters. I haven't seen this feature in any MMORPG I've played, on this scale, so it did a great impression on me. Not only do you change your character into a monster, but you get to play in their realm too! By using these monster templates you change your allegiance to the monster world, hence any humanoid you come across will try to kill you, but every other monster you come across with just ignores you, sometimes they fight with you if you get attacked by humans.

Other features of MoM is the pet system and looting system. The pet system is unique from any other MMORPG because everything you equip on your pet shows up on the actual pet (except four legged pets). If you equip your pet with a mace or a sword, you will see your pet holding these said weapons. The looting system is also one of a kind. Every monster uses the items it drops. For example you see a monster wielding a two handed sword, when you kill that monster, he will drop that two handed sword. This a very unique feature because it randomizes monster encounters to a certain degree. A boss might be easy to kill because he has no sword and harder to kill the next day when he has a sword.
MoM might not be best in graphics (yet) but it has proved to be a really awesome MMO. It was developed by Prairie Games and is a one time fee game, which means you only have to pay once ($29.95) and enjoy the game for the rest of your life. It's worth it if you ask me...
We introduced
Dofus in our past entries, but since it's one of our Top 5 Favorite Games, we're writing about it again. You have no choice, haha. Kidding!!!
Dofus is actually the first game Xeph and I played as a couple (teehee!), and it grew on us. We pretty much memorized everything about this game considering we keep coming back to it even after playing different kinds of games (with better graphics/game play). It's a 2d, Turn-based MMORPG which runs on any OS you can imagine.
It started out as this cute browser game, and now with over 10 MILLION players,
Dofus is proving itself to be one of the games to compete with. The French scored big on this one! Although it's not known in our country (the Philippines),
Dofus has been spreading their franchise, slowly and carefully, throughout the years.
Dofus has 12 classes, with 12 different specialties. This game not only enchants your eyes with it's cute interface it also challenges your brain. Strategic as it is,
Dofus is still one of the most relaxing games we have ever played, also one of the most thought of! Who would think that, with graphics built for a child comes a very complex game with really wide choices on jobs, clothes, equipments and quests.
Xeph and I loved this game even more because of it's community. GMs are very accomodating and hands on, the players are very friendly and approachable. This is one of the games that value their players' loyalty and hard work. And for that, they beat any hardcore-super cool graphics-MMORPG any day.

Another thing that drew us closer to
Dofus is the fact that you wouldn't get bored playing it, if you don't want to level up, go explore the maps, or hunt emotes, or do jobs, or window shop, the list is endless. You'll never get tired of it 'cause there's so much to do and so much to see.
Dofus is definately and will forever be on our top list of games, so to Ankama, KEEP IT UP! haha.

Today I introduce you to one of the most clever MMOFPS-RTS game I have yet to play,
Tremulous. There are two opposing factions that you can play in Tremulous, these are the Humans and Aliens, having their own sets of unique abilities and structures to rip each other apart. Besides point-click shooting mayhem, Tremulous spices things up with the ability to build your base anywhere on the battlefield! This unique system provides players an RTS (Real time Strategy) feel of the game, not just shooting around and scoring points throughout the match. Team play has a big role in this FPS-RTS game wherein players must cooperate with each other to attack and, most of the time, defend their base from the opposing faction.

From the start of every match, players must meet a kill quota for them to achieve a higher rank of technology/evolution, called "Stage", unlocks more building and arsenal at their disposal. This system of achieving a higher faction "Stage" plays a big role in a match, if your team dies too many times too quickly, the other force might crush your team due to the simple fact that they have more arsenal at their disposal. This kill system not only promotes team play among players, it also paves way to strategic positioning of base defenses depending on the current game situation.
One of the two factions you can play in Tremulous are the Humans. Humans specialize on technology and l

ong range arsenals to annihilate the Aliens, ranging from a chainsaw to a plasma rifle. As humans progresses through their "Stage" they gain better base defense including the dreaded tesla coil that instantly kills any unevolved aliens who wishes to sneak inside the human base. This faction relies heavily on team play because aliens have the ability to "sense" where they are, specially a rookie human who ventures from the safety of their base alone. Unlike the Aliens, human structures do not self repair so they must attend to it from time to time, because if one structure gets destroyed, it will explode and damage anything within it's radius. One of the feared human arsenal is their battle suit which provides them with high defense and immunity to head swipes from aliens, partnered with a rocket launcher, this walking fortress is indeed a force to be reckoned with.
The second faction in Tremulous are the Aliens. These aliens specialize on tearing humans up close. They have the ability to "sense" where their enemies are, and to stick to walls and ceilings to ambush their enemies. As aliens progress through their "Stage" they are giv

en a choice to evolve into more cunning and larger aliens. Unlike human structures, all alien base items can regenerate without any assistance, aside from that, aliens can build most of their defenses on walls and ceilings. One of the alien's base defense that humans always watch out for are their trappers which immobilizes humans within it's range for aliens to snack on. Aside from the alien's clever base defenses, they can choose to evolve into different alien forms that have their own special abilities. These abilities ranges from the fast jumping marauder that can zap multiple enemies with electricity, or the feared Tyrant that can kill an unarmored human in one swipe of it's massive claws.
All in all, if you like first person shooters with a bit a of Real time Strategy in the mix, and you don't mind graphics for that matter, you might want to take a look at Tremulous. Also, Tremulous is an open source game that runs on quake engine, with that in mind, there are a lot of contents from players and developers making stuff for this game as it grows. For those who has a Mac or Linux, rejoice! this game runs in Windows, Mac and Linux!
