Battleforge is a fairly new online card collecting RTS by EA. It recently celebtrated it's 1st anniversary, with only one year on it's belt, Battleforge has already been through numerous updates and expansions. Unlike other online card collection games out there, Battleforge is not turn-based, and the cards really do come to life when you set your card to the board. Imagine famous RTS games like starcraft or warcraft but instead of building producing units, you have a deck that holds your selected units until you have efficient energy to summon them. This kind of mechanic introduces a much faster gameplay than your popular RTS games out there. And unlike other RTS games, you are limited to the units you placed on your deck, you can't bring every unit, spell or building in a match hence you can't stay unbeatable throughout the game. There are 2 main gameplays in Battleforge, both offering a sub mode. Mainly players can chose to battle their decks through PvE or PvP. PvE offers 3 kinds of play, namely campaign, random or cooperative. PvP is just like your ordinary card game, you battle your deck with other players in an RTS paced competition. PvP is the bread and butter of this game, here you can really see how this game is similar to you traditional card games. Players that are familiar with the popular Magic: The Gathering card game will surely find this game interesting.
Aside from PvE and PvP, this game's in-game market plays a huge role. Since there are only 2 ways to aquire new cards (except give aways/trade), you can get new ones by purchasing boosters or buying from the auction house, this mimic's the trading done with traditional cards.
All in all, Battleforge's uniqueness has proven to be very successful when it comes to getting players hooked. And with a very friendly and supportive community, I'm pretty sure BF will be appreciated in the years to come.
This review has been pushed back more and more due to school work and mainly, my addiction to other games. Most of us have already played or heard about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Since this is a VERY late review, I will no longer linger around with details for I am sure that 99% of those who are familiar with this game has already judged it. Instead I'm going to lay down the pro's and cons of COD:MW2 just for the sake of FINALLY posting this review that I had pushed backed for months.
Pros -Weapons has now been upgraded with many modification to suit your style and situation your in -Drastically changed the way you fire 'from the hip' and firing 'from the sight'. You can almost empty an entire clip without hitting any enemies when you fire from 'your hip'. -AI is better than the old one, they are now more irritating. -GREAT storyline -New tougher enemies and weapons that come with it. -New features like snowmobile and killing enemies while hanging from a mountain. -Mostly focused on Multiplayer due to the fact that MP has A LOT of modes
Cons -Campaign was a bit... too short. -Coop has been limited to some maps not the entire campaign itself unlike COD: World at War. -ATI graphics card might have some problems unlike NVIDIA users, but there is a patch somewhere that fixes this.
I'm sure gamers from all over the world are going crazy over one of the most highly anticipated games coming out this year. Do you have any idea what day it is? Yep, you read it right! EA Games released Call Of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare 2...Today, Tuesday, November 10, 2009! Early this year, gamers have been waiting for November not because it's Halloween, people, it's probably because of this game right here. Let this be a warning to all the mothers out there, your children (and most likely your husbands too) will be away from the world starting today.
If you think CoD 4 : MW2 is keeping your children from everything that has to do with the real world, you also have to worry about Madden 2010 which received high ratings and awesome reviews from the top gaming media and websites all over the world! This is a great year to all the gaming companies who released their latest masterpieces.
The girlie girls don't have to worry about a thing as the gaming community also have a few things up their sleeves for you. Yahoo! has a bunch of Dress Up Games lined up to bring out the designer in you. The free games update is brought to you by your friends at Yahoo.com.
Recently my computer broke down leaving me with no graphics card for a week. Within this week I researched some flash games that requires little or no graphics card to play just to kill my boredom. I was surprised that there are a lot of MMOG (Massive Multiplayer Online Games) out there that have a lot of potential but are easily overlooked by better looking games. On the course of this coming week I will try to introduce to you some of these flash games that have very little system requirements.
The first game that really caught my attention was EA's Battlefield Heroes. This third person shooter game has a little bit of RPG element into it. The best part of this game is that you really have to use some tactics when you confront other players in the game. So this is not your typical shoot-em-up till their dead kind of FPS. There are 2 factions in Battlefield Heroes, the Royal Army and the National Army. These 2 factions are completely the same in terms of classes and weapons, the only difference is how their classes and weapons look. There are a total of 3 classes per faction, the Gunner, Soldier and Commando. Each class is an equivalent to your typical tank, healer and rogue in other MMORPG except in Battlefield Heroes, they all carry guns. EA really did a great job blending RPG and FPS in a war oriented game.
Lets talk about Battlefield Heroes' class, first of the gunner. The gunners are the designated "meat shield" they have the most HP but moves the slowest in the game. Don't let their title as "tank" fool you, they can dish out a lot of pain if you find yourself staring at the other end of their heavy machine gun or if you're unlucky enough, a rocket launcher. The Gunner's heavy weapons makes them a threat to be reckoned with specially if you encounter them in close range combat.
The second class is just in between the gunner and the commando, the soldier. Although the solider is the designated medic in the game, they can still dish out a lot of pain in close-mid range combat. Soldiers, like and other healers in MMORPG are most effective in groups, not only can he heal his team but he has an ability on which he grants his nearby allies the ability to see enemies through walls.
The last class in Battlefield Heroes is the commando, or a rogue counterpart in your typical MMORPG. These sneaky snipers have the ability to dish out a lot of damage in a safe distance, they lack the health that other classes posses but makes up for it in speed. Being the fastest and most fragile class in Battlefield Heroes, expect that if you are spotted without your cloak on, everyone will be gunning for you. Aside from superior long distance damage dealing class, this class has the ability to wreck havoc on the battlefield. The commando can plant "Troop Traps" to blow anyone sky high if they get close enough, they can "Mark a Target" for everyone in your team to see even through walls and lastly use a poison blade if anyone comes in melee range of the commando.
Aside from different abilities, all classes carries an anti-tank sticky dynamite to make sure that if ever a team lacks a Gunner, they can still take out those pesky tanks. I really like this because I played a lot of war games that has heavy armor on it, and majority of the time these heavy armors rule in the battlefield if your team lacks that rocket carrying soldier. In battlefield heroes tanks are in par with the soldiers which makes thing more fun for everyone.
Now your thinking that this isn't your typical first person war game, but there is another thing that makes Battlefield Heroes unique, and that is it's humor. That's right, you read it right, I said humor, EA manages to put some humor in their game, and again, they did a great job doing it. From the wacky sounds and funny taunts it's really hard not to have fun in Battlefield Heroes, win or lose majority of the time you will have fun. Who said you need a very expensive PC to play a fun war game?
Crysis is an FPS Game, it's been around for quite some time now. Xeph had fun playing it (he finished the game in 2 days, lol)! Anyway, we saw this awesome video of Crysis and thought we'd share it with you. It's not real time gameplay, just something gamers came up with. Enjoy!
This might be a late review, but since our blog didn't exist when Dead Space was released I guess there's no better time to give my review about it today. Dead Space is a horror survival game where you have to fight your way through mutated human beings. You play Isaac who's on a mission to find his wife on a the mining ship "Ishamura". What's the difference between Dead Space and the majority of the horror survival games out there? Well, Dead Space has some unique features, one of which is your mutated enemies are vulnerable when you shoot/cut their limbs, not their head. I'm not a big fan of horror survival games, but I did enjoy Dead Space so I thought it's worth a review. At first it might be hard for some people to play Dead Space due to the odd camera angle. But the slightly uncentered 3rd person view isn't there by mistake. I found out that being attacked from behind and actually seeing it without turning around makes me jump off my seat most of the time. Another factor that makes this truly a horror experience is that sometimes your enemies are playing possum, lying on the floor until you come too close and they pounce on you. Aside from faking dead, your enemies sometimes transform corpses into mutated aliens infront of you. Dead Space also introduces two unique objects, the stasis and kinesis module. The stasis module can slow fast obejects to a crawl while the kinesis module lets you moves objects from afar and use them as weapons. Both these modules help you in though encounters and some puzzles scattered throughout the game. Although I'm not a huge fan of horror survival games, Dead Space offers a long and interesting story line that will keep you occupied for quite some time. If you are a fan of horror survival games then you should definitely try this game out. And for those who are like me, not much of a fan of this kind of genre it's worth a second look. I enjoyed this even though it scared the crap out of me most of the time.
