
Battleforge is a fairly new online card collecting RTS by EA. It recently celebtrated it's 1st anniversary, with only one year on it's belt, Battleforge has already been through numerous updates and expansions. Unlike other online card collection games out there, Battleforge is not turn-based, and the cards really do come to life when you set your card to the board. Imagine famous RTS games like starcraft or warcraft but instead of building producing units, you have a deck that holds your selected units until you have efficient energy to summon them. This kind of mechanic introduces a much faster gameplay than your popular RTS games out there. And unlike other RTS games, you are limited to the units you placed on your deck, you can't bring every unit, spell or building in a match hence you can't stay unbeatable throughout the game.

There are 2 main gameplays in Battleforge, both offering a sub mode. Mainly players can chose to battle their decks through PvE or PvP. PvE offers 3 kinds of play, namely campaign, random or cooperative. PvP is just like your ordinary card game, you battle your deck with other players in an RTS paced competition. PvP is the bread and butter of this game, here you can really see how this game is similar to you traditional card games. Players that are familiar with the popular Magic: The Gathering card game will surely find this game interesting.
Aside from PvE and PvP, this game's in-game market plays a huge role. Since there are only 2 ways to aquire new cards (except give aways/trade), you can get new ones by purchasing boosters or buying from the auction house, this mimic's the trading done with traditional cards.
All in all, Battleforge's uniqueness has proven to be very successful when it comes to getting players hooked. And with a very friendly and supportive community, I'm pretty sure BF will be appreciated in the years to come.

ve just started playing this game and i really like it so far, i mean the missions are fun, the 4 player co op missions are great, but one thing i really hate, is that you cant unlock or earn new cards through playing. If you choose the "free to play" option and just download the game you are only given 8 cards from each deck so 32 cards in total, and this means that you are so limited you cant even make up a focused deck, you have to split it fire/nature, shadow/frost, so your tactical options are very restricted. I definetly think this games major flaw is its greedy approach to players, suppose you buy the game, you still need to keep dishing out money to buy new cards, and as new cards and features come out you will end up having to spend a small fortune
the game itself is free, you don't 'need' to buy it to unlock any features, you any need to attain a certain level to completely unlock the game (by that i mean unlocking trade/market). As for the starter deck, there are ALOT of people who made the starter deck a really powerful deck with enough upgrades.
About the cards/boosters only available through paying EA. well $5 for TWO boosters is really cheap to be honest.
If you really want to play 100% free there are ways. First is you HAVE to manipulate the market, like getting a promo card (refer a friend) then selling it, then using the points you got from it to buy low and sell high the other cards in the market, alot of players do this to attain most of the best cards in game without paying a single cent.
as for EA being greedy, not really, a month ago they gave away 250 BFP ($2.50) to EVERYONE, and a few months before that some promo cards. if you play it long enough EA has some hefty rewards for loyal players.
