Not Just Because You're A Girl!

Category : ,
I feel proud when I see girls playing MMOs or other types of games, especially games people never expect girls would play. WHY? Because the gaming world is a very harsh environment. Yes, boys excel in this area but it doesn't hurt to let the girls be a part of the action. I am proud because despite of the harshness surrounding the gaming community, we still have a few girls who instead of give up, find it a reason to be better (at gaming, I mean).

I have been asked by BOYS (more than once), to stand up from my PC and "take it outside" just because I beat them on a game they usually "dominate" in. And I never backed down. To them I am JUST a girl, to me I am A GIRL. I feel good whenever this kind of things happen, because I am able to challenge them, I am able to change their view from how a girl should be to how a girl CAN BE. These incidents happen in computer shops, if they can do that in real life they can definitely do it online...

In the online gaming world, most of the time, boys will either insult you or harass you in the most perverse way possible. I rarely tell people my gender when I play MMOs, I only tell my guild mates that I'm a girl only if I think the time is right. I feel sad for girls who fell victim to the boys who have little or no respect at all for girl-gamers/girls. And feel disappointed to those who use it (being a girl) as a reason to get attention or get what they want. I find it cheap and pathetic, our gender is not our weakness, it's our strength! Don't sell yourself out, rather, let them see that girls should be respected and treated well. Just because boys are nice to you online, doesn't mean they respect you, always look at it in another point of view. Are you sure the "special treatment" they give you is a sign of respect? Ask yourself that before you put yourself in a situation you might regret. Yes, it feels good to be important, but sometimes it's not right.

I love how girls these days excel in gaming, sometimes we are even better than the boys (hehe). Doesn't it feel good when we are known for our achievements and not for our, how do I say this, "girly ways"?

I like playing games too but I just don't have the patience to be really good at it. So most of the time I enjoy watching my husband play games on our PS2. :)

I hear you!

It really does feel better if you beat them on their own playing field. Fair and square. Then let them know you're a girl after the carnage.

*female pride* *sings* "Anything you can do I can do better..." Hehehe.
